Prompt6ix için uzun zaman önce tamamlanmış sayfalardan/ A spread that had been finished a long time ago for Prompt6ix
Önce sayfayı pembe/ bordo/ kırmızı tonlarında pastellerle karaladım/ First i scribbled the page with pink/red/ bordeau toned pastels
Sonra üzerine benzer tonlarda suluboya sürdüm/ Then i painted the page with watercolours in similar tones
Eskiz kağıdı üzerine pastel ile ayakkabımın izini çıkardım./ With sketch paper i used pastels to trace my shoe.
Yeşil bir pastel kullandım. / I used a green pastel.
Evde tarihi geçmiş yara bantları vardı. Bantları akrilik boyalarla boyadım. Böylece bir tür washi bandı oldular. / I had expired band-aids at home. I painted them with acrylics. Thus they became a kind of washi tape.
Ayakkabı izine benzeyen bir damga oydum. Farklı renklerde desenler bastım./ I carved out a stamp in shoe shape.I formed patterns in different colours.
Bantların üzerine Ömer Hayyam'dan bir şiir yazdım. Tabii ki şarapla ilgiliydi. En üste ayakkabı izimin yarısını yapıştırdım./ I wrote a poem by Omer Hayyam on the band-aids. It was about wine. On top i pasted the shoe trace.

Aslında bu döşemelik bir kumaştı. Sık dokusu çok hoşuma gitmişti. Pantolon dikebilirim diye düşündüm.

This fabric was actually an upholstery fabric. I liked its tight texture. I thought i could sew pants with it.
------------------------------
But the people who have seen the fabric all persuaded me not to sew the pants. My mom asked for a table cloth. It is square. But the circular table was outside, so i used it to photograph the cloth.

Our loyal backpack had finally crashed last year (poor kid had survived for 10 years, longer than enough...) We had to buy a new one but the specifications were a lot. Plenty of pockets, few embellishments, durable and so the list goes on. Thus i realized i would never find the right backpack. Eventually, with the encouragement of Gonca Hanım from ornitorenk handmade i decided to sew my own. Recently, she had sewn a backpack in flannel and shared it on her blog. It had a beautiful color and form. Moreover, she shared all the details of sewing with me.
I had leftover flannel pieces. But the colors were a bit too much striking. (I was supposed to share the bag with my brother. I thought he would definitely object) I didn't want to buy new fabric. And then i noticed the skirt that my neighbour gave me a long time ago.

It was a fake suede synthetic fabric in dark blue. When i saw the fabric i knew i would not do something wearable. Thus it waited for a couple of months. But it had a nice lining, the fabric looked quite durable. And it was dark coloured. So i thought it was appropriate for a bag. I dissected it.

Her parçayı nasıl kullanacağıma karar verdim.
--------------
As i was preparing for the road i ripped unnecessary parts. I calculated for a long time. Decided what i would do with each part. I wanted a middle sized bag. I measured my existing mountainer bag and applied. The main body of the bag would be 45cm in length and 50cm in width. The base was 35x15cm. Of course there would be pockets.
What happened after all this calculation? I could not finish my tasks on time and sewing was left for the last night. I did not consider my slowness in sewing. I thought it would be finished in a couple of hours. and settled for my machine. The front side of the fabric looked like suede so the surface was quite rough. But the backside was slippery. My machine refused to sew such a fabric. Thus it was the first goal to me. I tried for nothing. But it was too late to buy a bag. And it was impossible to go to the site without a backpack.

------------
I thought i must have used the flannel from the very start. (in the middle of the night i thought "the curse of the flannel" :) There was not enough fabric for a whole bag. Thus i had to mix crazy colours.

Çantanın askılarına tela koydum. Biraz dik olsunlar istedim. Ama ütülemediğim için öyle bir şey olmadı.

I have put interlining to the straps. But as i did not iron it did not work.

So the ramadan drummers passed by, morning broke. I sewed the button right before we left. I would do so much more if i had the time. But this is all for the first trial.

-------------------
"index card a day" project was initiated by Tammy of Daisy Yellow blog. The aim was to do small, easy, daily art exercises on cheap index cards, thus beat the void/empty paper phobia. The project has been going on between June 1- July 31 since a couple of years and thousands of cards are shared over the internet. Reserving time for art on a daily basis may be like a therapy for anyone. Regardless of the materials or the medium you use, it is important to listen to yourself. You don't have to be an "artist" to reserve time for art. You don't have to be perfect. The only thing you need is to try and have fun.

It would be a lie if i said i did so many artful things in this period. But i caught up in the end. And did these sketches in one night.

Eylemlerim kesinlikle devam edecek...
------------------
I have embraced sewing as another form of design. Looking at patterns, thinking which piece goes where, dreaming of the whole, eventually ending up with something unexpected is quite fun. As i hate the system more and more nowadays i realize it brings me one step closer to my freedom. How beautiful it is for one to produce her own clothes. Being unique, wrapping yourself in natural fabrics, choosing sometimes muted sometimes bright colours, paying less. I will certainly continue my actions...
-----------------------
I bought this fleece in winter to sew a dress. But did not have the time. I have set up levels in sewing. From easiest to hardest it was skirt-blouse-dress-pants-jacket. It was time for the pants. I found the pattern on Anna Evers's web site. And modified it for myself. (i widened the lower part of the pants because the original pattern was for stretch fabric so my feet were not fitting in:) It is hard to put arms and sew hidden on pants. But the result is not bad.
-----------------
I have collected so many words in silence though there was so much to say...I could not pretend that nothing had happened but i did not use this space as a weeping wall either. As every summer i have let my inner stray child out, and found shelter in the sea and sun. I still have hope and stubbornness.

Yeni bloglar/ Link love no.2

The blogs of this week are about sewing. They are very important reference sources for people new to sewing, just like me. Though i can not understand all that is being told there, i read patiently:) I strive to try. My sewing philosophy is far from the commonly accepted domestic and harmonious approach but more on a track of "how can i destruct this, how can i turn it into something else". So sewing is not only about producing decent clothes for me. It is a tool to enhance my thinking in 3 dimensions and very entertaining...
Ornitorenk handmade: Genuine designs produced by natural fabrics. I do care that she never uses synthetic fabrics.
Kendin Dik: She learned sewing on her own. She teaches sewing on her blog to all who is willing.
Laçin Tenel: Sometimes she uses ready sewing patterns and modifies them. And sometimes she sews her own designs.
Sew4home: Sewing projects for the home and daily use.
Purl Bee: Because they have sewing projects that can be prepared in a very short time. But it is not possible to find all the materials in Turkey.

Akrilik boya ve markörler ile denemeler. Kristin Dudish'in blogunda her salı farklı sanatçıların sunduğu teknikleri deneyerek bir çalışma üretme günü.

Trials with acrylic paint and markers.Every tuesday is the day chosen by Kristin Dudish to try another artist's tutorial on her blog. The page below was created by using Denthe's painting technique. First you place the figures you would like to draw on the page. (I drew keys) Then you add geometrical forms on top. (I only added rectangles and circles) And you paint each intersection area in a different color. In the end you have very cubist compositions:)
