52 haftada baskı yapmak 5. Hafta / 52 weeks of printmaking Week 5

5. haftaya geldik bile.
----------------
We arrived at the 5th week already. This week i tried a relatively easier print. I did not have too much time and i wanted to see what i could do using a basic form. I started with an old cotton cushion case again. I printed dark blue circles with the lid of a detergent bottle. I aligned with the edge of the fabric and then followed the order of the circles.

2. katman.Eski akrilik boya şişesinin kapağı ile. Turkuaz renkte. Yine kumaş kenarını hiza alıp daireleri takip ettim.
-----------------
2. layer. With the cap of an old acrylic paint bottle. In turquoise. I have aligned with the edge of the fabric again and then followed the circles.

3. katman. Eski krem tüpü kapağı ile. Açık mavi renkte.
-----------
3. layer. With an old cap of cream tube. In light blue.

----------------------
This time i have put a towel under my fabric. I used my  homemade stamp pad to take paint onto the caps. I have printed the topmost layer, smallest circles in light blue with a mixture of paint and fabric medium. I forgot to mix the medium in previous layers. These are the caps i have used.

--------------
It is possible to produce many other patterns with circles. I will test the durability of this fabric after ironing and washing. If it does not fade i will print a bigger piece. I plan to mix it with another fabric and sew a blouse.

52 haftada baskı yapmak 4. Hafta / 52 weeks of printmaking Week 4

-------------
This fabric was also cut from the hems of a white pair of linen pants, same as last week. I have painted it with the left over purple acrylic paint mixed with fabric medium. Not that i am very fond of this color but i decided to use the paints before their expiry dates.

---------------
As the fabric stood extremely purple before me, the first thing that crossed my mind was "i wish i had not painted this hue". Then i have set it aside. As i was drawing in my art journal i came across a page i had done before. And decided to rework this page on fabric horizontally.

------------
I did not deal with a new stamp this week. But i have used my former homemade stencils. I have mixed a dark blue-purple hue and painted in the oval pattern. The paint kind of overflowed the stencil. You should use a sponge instead of a brush but i do not have the patience. The right way is to take little paint on the sponge and go over twice. If you take a lot of paint on the brush at once, like i did, this is the result you will get.

Proje için çalışırken dinlediğim şarkıyı (diren kalbim-hold on my heart) yazmak geldi içimden.
---------
Then i have mixed grass green and yellow to write "diren kalbim (hold on my heart)". I wanted to write the song i heard as i was working for the project. As everything, everybody had got more merciless recently, it was necessary to encourage myself.
The oil pastel text on paper worked out well and it was perfectly legible but here on fabric it disappeared. I was disappointed with my fabric again.

--------------
Moving on i decided to paint with white over it. The white had balanced all the purples. and the green peeking underneath seemed like shadows. I have cut pieces from the last saved bits of flannel and printed cotton leftovers. I pasted them with mod podge. I hope it will prevent fraying, too. Maybe i can sew them to secure them more, i haven't decided yet.

parçalar/ pieces

Yine farklı zamanlarda biraraya gelen bir sayfa. Evde yaptığım şablonla akrilik sprey, damga denemeleri, kumaş bant parçaları.

Another page that came together over time. With homemade stencil and acrylic sprey, stamping trials, fabric tape pieces.

comfortably numb

---------
One of my favourite legendary Pink Floyd songs, "comfortably numb". This page had been waiting for months. First added the black paint then the Medusa head. Then i have forgotten about it. Last week when i heard the song (yay for sleepless nights due to projects) i wrote it here. It starts as "Hello, is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me." The song is beautiful on its own but if you watch the "Wall" scene, then you will love it more.

52 haftada baskı yapmak 3. Hafta / 52 weeks of printmaking Week 3

-----------------------
A real hello from the third week of the adventure :) I am late, let's just say better late than never and start. I was planning to adapt a previous page on fabric this week.

-----------
These guys started their lives as the shortened hems of white linen pants.

Boyanıp bir dikdörtgen haline geldiler. (22 x 30 cm)
-------
They have been painted and cut to a rectangle.(22 x 30 cm)

Sonra üzerlerine kendi kestiğim şablonu koyup desenleri boyadım. Balinanın eskiz kağıdına bir kopyasını almıştım. Kumaştaki desenleri öyle hizaladım.
------
Then i have put  the homemade stencil on top and painted the pattern.I have copied the whale on sketch paper. I have aligned the patterns regarding that.

Ayna tersini almayı unuttuğum için damgayı tam ters yönde oymuş bulundum. Aslında biraz oydum biraz havya ile ısıtarak biçimlendirdim.
----------
As i have forgot to take the mirror image my stamp was reversed. I have carved some parts and heated some parts with iron solder.

Damga aşamaları. Düzgün görünüyor değil mi?
--------------
Stamp stages. Looks fine, right?

------------------
But printing on fabric the stamp almost did not appear. I do not know whether it was because of the linen fabric or already painted previous coat of acrylic. I had to go over the whole drawing with a brush.

------
I drew circles with compass (with pencil tip). I went over the circles with black acrylic paint and two different brushes. I wrote "trace of the ocean" with pencil first. Then outlined it with black paint and fine brush. The tape in the tummy of the whale is the center of the circles. If you draw many circles from the same center the hole gets bigger. This is just a small precaution to keep it under control.
I wanted to make the circle (containing the title) very thin. Thus i stitched it instead of drawing with paint.

Lisa Congdon'un soyut çalışmaları bana cesaret verdi.
--------------
Finally i shook black and white acrylic on top. Black was a bit too watered, there are drops on the right side. Whatever, it is an experiment...This pink is actually neon. But it is impossible to show on the photos. I never thought i would use pink and neon. But Lisa Congdon's abstracts encouraged me.

52 haftada baskı yapmak 2. Hafta / 52 weeks of printmaking Week 2

----------
Hello from the second week of a year long adventure on fabric printing and painting. This week please visit my friends Gonca's and Necla's blogs who also joined me.
I have tried making patterns on paper every day through February. Some turned out well while some did not end up the way i have expected. Some days i could not reserve the time and at other days i did a bunch of patterns together. But for the first time in my life i could do an art challenge so regularly. As a result i am closing February with a lot of ideas. Maybe some of these paper trials will be transferred to fabric in the future.
Today's post is long. I have tried many things.

------------------
Both of these fabric pieces were old cushion covers. Untreated cotton fabric. After painting I washed them in wool programme (30 degrees) with detergent without ironing (as i dislike ironing :)  Well, better to see the harm at this stage if there will be any. A little fading happened after washing.
I handwashed the fabric that i have printed last week with cold water and soap. No fading occurred. Then i washed it with this week's pieces. Very little fading occurred. I have painted its background with acrylic spray i have made. As it contained acrylic paint and mod podge i think it held better on fabric.
By the way i tried mixing fabric medium and acrylic paint but have not washed that piece yet. Fabric medium is like white glue or mod podge. It was easier to paint. And the fabric got less stiff after drying. I will write about it in the coming weeks.

--------------
There are a ton of materials inside the bag i have sewn for field work. As it was hard to find smaller items inside we were using plastic bags. I decided to sew a smaller zipped bag to carry these.
I have put one of my stencils on fabric and painted with a brush. I did not fill the whole background, just the opposite corners to make a frame.

Ortaya yazı yazmak için yine kendi kestiğim şablonu kullandım. Bir dergide hoşuma giden bir yazı karakterini kopyalamıştım.
-------------
I used a stencil i have cut before to write a word in the middle. I copied a font i have seen in a magazine to make the stencil.

Yerdeniz bizim mimarlık ofisimizin adı. Ursula Le Guin'in "Yerdeniz Büyücüsü" kitabından esinlenerek koyduğumuz adımız.
--------------
Yerdeniz (Earthsea) is the name of our architecture office. It was inspired by "The Wizard of Earthsea" by Ursula Le Guin. Earthsea is a world merely composed of islands and endless seas. It started out as three books and evolved into a bigger series in time. When we started our own adventure 8 years ago it seemed very appropriate and it brought us luck. Since then our journey continues on land and water :)

---------
I have outlined some parts with white pen after writing "yerdeniz". Because the paint smeared at some parts and i wanted to lighten the colors a bit.

Arka paneli de aynı renklere boyamıştım. Üzerine lastik panodan oyduğum damgayla akrilik boya ile baskı yaptım. Bu sefer damgayı fırçayla boyadım.
------
I have painted the back panel with the same colors. On top i printed with my home made foamboard stamp with acrylic paint. This time i painted the stamp with a brush.

Çantanın bitmiş hali 33 x 28 cm. Fermuarın ucuna kumaştan bir ek yaptım kolay açılsın diye.
----------
The finished bag is 33 x 28 cm. I added a piece of painted fabric to the zip to make it easier to open.

Arka panel/ Back panel

Fermuar/ Zip

------------
Actually i wasn't planning to sew a lining. Then i remembered this dark blue fabric. It was the one i tried for a field backpack and failed to sew because of its slippery nature. This time i pinned paper on top and was able to sew. I know it is not a big deal for you but for me it is a very big progress :)

Gelelim beceremediklerime...
----------
And the things i could not do...It was hard to sew the zipper, painted fabric and the lining all at once. We have a beautiful and still operating iron Köhler sewing machine at home. Inherited from my grandmother to my mom. But it is so beautiful that i am afraid of touching it. It has a foot pedal which means your feet has to move as you hold the fabric in line with your hands. Which is not possible for me to achieve at the moment. What if i break the needle, what if i damage it? So i bought an Artes which is a fake replica of the simplest Singer machine model, until i get rid of my rookie state. And so far it has sewn even thick fabrics.

----------
But my thin needle got stuck with the plastic teeth of the zipper. I skipped a little part being afraid it would break. Thus, the corner in the upper photo was fine but this corner here was not sewn properly. The grey thread shows the unsewn part. It seems kind of ripped. I have 2 problems: As i can not replace the foot of the machine my stitches fall far from the zipper. And as i can not change the needle (my spare needle is also thin) i can not sew the plastic zippers. There is a nearby Singer service. What if i take it there? Do Singer parts (zipper leg, double needle, jean needle etc) fit my machine? Do anyone of you have information?

İşte çantanın dolmuş hali :) / Here is the bag stuffed :)

Bu da benim emektarım, 2013'ten beri :) / And this is my veteran, since 2013 :)

Her güne bir desen 25-28/ A pattern everyday 25-28

With the end of February a pattern everyday comes to an end. For the first time in my life i did a prompt so regularly.
Here are this week's patterns. All on altered book pages with acrylics/ endorsing ink/ markers/ roller pens. I have also made the stamps formerly at different times:
